Embarking on a journey to KyungHee University as an international student evoked a myriad of emotions. The allure of a new adventure was intertwined with a sense of trepidation as I navigated unfamiliar cultural terrain. Despite the initial challenges, KyungHee University extended a warm embrace, providing me with the necessary support and resources to embark on a transformative experience. Orientation sessions and language classes became my guiding lights, illuminating the path towards cultural integration. The university's commitment to fostering diversity created a welcoming environment where I felt accepted and valued as a foreign student.
The first few weeks were challenging. The unfamiliar language, customs, and social norms took some time to get used to. However, the university provided ample support and resources to help foreign students adjust. I attended orientation sessions, joined language classes, and sought guidance from the International Student Office.
To truly experience the university and meet new people, I stepped outside my comfort zone and joined clubs and societies. While there were language barriers, I found that most students were eager to communicate and make friends. I made a diverse group of friends, both Korean and international, who enriched my time at KyungHee.
Despite the university's efforts to promote diversity, there were times when I felt isolated due to language barriers. Many university clubs and societies used only Korean, making it difficult to participate fully. I believe that the university could improve its inclusivity by incorporating more English language options in its clubs, societies, and websites.
My time at KyungHee University not only broadened my horizons but also taught me valuable lessons. I learned the importance of stepping outside of my comfort zone, embracing diversity, and seeking support when needed. I also gained a deep appreciation for the resilience and strength of the international student community.
